This was the second 7" 45rpm vinyl record (an EP - extended player - rather than a traditional single as it contained 4 tracks) by Adge Cutler & The Wurzels, released on 1st February 1967. It was issued on the Columbia EMI record label in mono, catalogue number SEG8525.
At the time of both the recording and release of this single the Wurzels supporting Adge were Reg Quantrill, Reg Chant, John Macey and Brian Walker.
The tracks on this EP came from the very first commercial recording session made by Adge Cutler & The Wurzels for their first album - self titled. It was recorded in front of an audience in the upstairs room of the Royal Oak pub, Nailsea, in Zummerzet (as it says on the album cover!), on the 2nd November 1966. Adge's debut single 'Drink Up Thy Zider' was also taken from this recording session. All four tracks were written by Adge Cutler - more information on them can be found on the album's webpage. In their March 1967 edition the 'Gramophone Magazine' reported Two records made ‘live’ in public houses and released last month are presumably due for a share of notoriety. Both are vigorous, and both, in a positive, defiant way, are dreadful. Adge Cutler occupies the four tracks on the EP Columbia SEG 8525, made at a pub in Somerset. One of them is his near-hit Drink up thy Zider. The others are Pill, Pill / Twice Daily / Hark at ‘ee Jacko, red faced, bristly-chinned stuff generously sprinkled with heavy, gumbooted innuendo.

This EP (extended player) was released on the standard Columbia EMI label on 1st February 1967. This was the only EP released by Adge Cutler & The Wurzels and also their only 7" picture sleeve issued in the UK. For collectors this is an interesting item. It sold in relatively good numbers but there are many variations in the label to be found. This is most unusual - two variations can sometimes to be found (as on some of Adge's albums where it was repressed and needed another run of labels made up) but in this case at least 16 variations can be found - some to do with the company label 'blanks' and then several variations where the layout of the words was subtly different.

This EP was put together before the album was released. The inter-track chat was all taken from the live recording session but some interesting editing was carried out, it ending up being subtly different from the album release. The chat on the EP is shown in the centre column. The right-hand column explains how it sat within the album release.
The text on the back of the picture-sleeve gave early Wurzel fans a quick biography - these words are not given an author but were used many years later in the 1977 album ' The Very Best Of Adge Cutler' when they were credited to Martin Ross and Bob Barratt. The sleeve was put together by Garrod and Lofthouse (who also produced the sleeves for all Adge's albums) in February 1967 as indicated in the small print at the bottom of the sleeve - GL 6702 TP.
