The Wurzels

"A Load More Bullocks" CD

This CD of new material by The Wurzels was released on 13 June 2010, a follow-up to the 2002 release Never Mind The Bullocks. It was issued on the CIA record label, catalogue number CIA013.

  Song Lyrics

The Band Line-Up:

At the time of the recording of this album The Wurzels consisted of Pete Budd, Tommy Banner, John Morgan and Sedge Moore. The CD was recorded and mastered by Louie 'Gribble' Nicastro who as part time Wurzel provided additional vocals and instruments as described in the CD case insert - which is well worth a good read!

The CD Album:

The CD had a total of ten tracks. Nine of these were wurzelised covers of popular chart songs at this time, the tenth was a new track written by Pete Budd entitled Ode To Adge - which was issued as a single - and was a tribute to the founder of The Wurzels, Adge Cutler, who had died in 1974. The CD sleeve gave the release the long description of The Stunning Follow up to 'Never Mind The Bullocks' A Load More Bullocks - Now That's What I Call 'Moo'sic. The album was released as a digital download with minor differences such as the omission of  'spoken' parts to some songs

Track 1     Rockstar

I'm through with standing in line to clubs I'll never get in
It's like the bottom of the ninth that I'm never gonna win
This life aint turned out quite the way I want it to be
Tell me what you want
I want a brand new house on an episode of Cribs
And a bathroom I can play baseball in
And a king-size tub big enough for ten plus me
Ooh tell me what you need
I need a credit card that's got no limit
And a big black jet with a bedroom in it
Gonna join the Mile High Club at thirty-seven thousand feet
Oh ho I been there and I done that
I want a new tour bus full of old guitars
My own star on Hollywood Boulevard
Somewhere between Cher and James Dean is fine for me
So how you gonna do that?
I'm gonna trade this life for fortune and fame
I'll even cut my hair and change my name

(Chorus)
Cos we all just wanna be big rockstars
Live in hill-top mansions driving fifteen cars
The girls come easy and the drugs come cheap
We'll all stay skinny cos we just won't eat
We'll hang out in the coolest bars
In the VIP with the movie stars
Every good gold digger's gonna wind up there
Every Playboy bunny with their bleached blonde hair
Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar
Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar, yeah

I wanna be great like Elvis without the tassels
Hire eight bodyguards that love to beat up assholes
Sign a couple autographs so I can eat my meals for free
Gonna dress my ass with the latest fashion
Get a front door key to the Playboy Mansion
Gonna date a centrefold that loves to blow, ha ha, my money for me
I'm gonna trade this life for fortune and fame
I'd even cut me hair and change me name
I've often wished I was called Adge

Cos we all just wanna be big rockstars
Live in hill-top mansions driving fifteen cars
The girls come easy and the drugs come cheap
We'll all stay skinny cos we just won't eat
We'll hang out in the coolest bars
In the VIP with the movie stars
Every good gold digger's gonna wind up there
Every Playboy bunny with her bleached blonde hair
We'll hide out in the private rooms
With the latest dictionary and today's who's who
They'll get you anything with that evil smile
Everybody's got a drug dealer on speed dial
Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar, yeah

I'm gonna sing those songs that offend the senses (ooh arr ooh arr)
Gonna pop my pills from a Pez dispenser
Get washed up singers writing all my songs (ooh arr ooh arr)
Lipsync them every night so I don't wrong 'em get
Oh get 'em wrong, oh never mind

Well we all just wanna be big rock stars (ooh, ooh arr)
And live up on a hill-top, driving fifteen cars (ooh arr)
The girls come easy and they drugs is cheap (arr ooh)
And we'll all stay skinny, we won't eat
And we'll hang out in the coolest bars, arr
In the VIP with the movie stars
Every good gold digger's gonna wind up there
Every Playboy bunny with her bleach blonde hair
And we'll hide out in the private rooms
With the latest dictionary and today's who's who
They'll get you anything with that evil smile
Everybody's got a drug dealer on speed dial
Hey hey I wanna be a Rockstar, yeah
Hey hey yeah, I wanna be a rockstar

How about that then young 'un eh, all the way from Somerset my beauties
Proper job! Thank you, thank you, thank you

Track 2    Up All Night

Sometimes I see your face, looking at me
All your love and grace, smiling at me
All the things we had, and never understood

Don’t you know I’m trying to say something to you?

At times it cuts I up, thinking of you
All the hope is gone, wasted on you
All the talks we had, never did no good, no

Oh

(Chorus)
Maybe, I don't need you to save me
I just want you to help me
Cos you're keeping me up all night
I'm so tired of waiting, waiting here for nothing
I should be up all night with you

Pour another glass, while I watch the bottle disappear
While I watch the morning light appear
And I'm thinking about you
You’re never thinking about me!

Oh maybe, I don't need you to save me
I just want you to help me
Cos you're keeping me up all night
I'm so tired of waiting, waiting here for nothing
I should be up all night and

(Repeat chorus)

I met this girl last night and she said why won't you marry me

He met this girl last night and she said why won't you marry me

I'm too young for that, too blown for that, too grown for that
Too tired for that, too proud for that and I'm too gone for that

Would you like to come back to my flat

Oh maybe, I don't need you to save me
I just want you to help me
Cos you're keeping me up all night
I'm so tired of waiting, waiting here for nothing
I should be up all night and
Baby, I don't need you to save me
I just want you to help me
Cos you're keeping me up all night
I'm so tired of waiting, waiting here for nothing
I should be up all night with you

Ahh, come on, just say you'll stay, ahh

Track 3      Ruby

Go!
Doobie do, doobie do
Doobie do, doobie do

Let it never be said, that romance is dead
Cos there's so little else occupying my head
There is nothing I need, 'cept the function to breathe
But I'm not really fussed, doesn't matter to me

(Chorus)
Ruby Ruby Ruby Ruby (ooh arr ooh arr ooh arr)
Do ya do ya do ya do ya (ooh arr ooh arr ooh arr)
Know what you're doing doing to me (ooh arr ooh arr ooh arr)
Ruby Ruby Ruby Ruby (ooh arr ooh arr ooh arr)

Due to lack of interest, tomorrow is cancelled
Let the clocks be reset, and the pendulums held
Cos there's nothing at all, 'cept this space in between
Finding out what you’m called, and repeating your name

(Repeat chorus)

Could it be could it be that you're only joking with me
And you don't really see you and me
Could it be could it be that you're joking with me all the time
And you don't really see you and me at all

(Repeat chorus)

Ruby Ruby Ruby Ruby (ooh arr ooh arr ooh arr) (doobie do, doobie do)
Do ya do ya do ya do ya (ooh arr ooh arr ooh arr)
Know what you're doing doing to me (ooh arr ooh arr ooh arr) (doobie do, doobie do)
Ruby Ruby Ruby Ruby (ooh arr ooh arr ooh arr)

Track 4      Chelsea Dagger

A wurpy lidy do, a wurpy lidy day, a wurpy, a wurpy, a wurpy lido
A wurpy lidy, a wurpy lidy, a wurpy lidy, a wurpy lido

Do do do, do do do, do do do do do do do
Do do do, do do do, do do do do do
Do do do, do do do, do do do do do do do
Do do do, do do do, do do do do do
(Repeat once)

Well you must be a girl with shoes like that, she said you know me well
I seen you and little Steven and Joanna round the back of my hotel, oh ah
Someone said you were asking after I, but I know you best as a blagger (oh go on)
I said tell me your name, is it sweet, she said my boys it's dagger! Ooh ho!

(Chorus)
I was good, she was off stealing everything she got
I was bold, she was over the worst of it
Gave me gear, thank you dear, bring your sister over here
Let her dance with me, just for the hell of it

(Repeat do do do section)

Well you must be a boy with bones like that she said you got me wrong
I'd have sold 'em to you if I could just've kept the last of me clothes on, woo hoo (oh ho)
Call me up, take me down with you when you go, I could be your regular belle
And I'll dance for little Steven and Joanna round the back of my hotel, that's right (oh yeah)

(Repeat chorus)

A wurpy lidy do, a wurpy lidy day, I'm dancing, ha ha
A wurpy lidy do, a wurpy lidy day, a wurpy, a wurpy, a wurpy do do
A wurpy lidy, a wurpy lidy day, a wurpy, a wurpy, a wurpy do do
A wurpy doobie, a wurpy doobie, a wurpy, do ba boo boo

Chelsea Chelsea I believe
That when you're dancing slowly sucking your sleeve
The boys get lonely after you leave
And it's one for the dagger and another for the one you believe
Chelsea Chelsea I believe
That when you're dancing slowly sucking your sleeve
The boys get lonely after you leave
And it's one for the dagger, and another for the one you believe

(Repeat do do do section, over and over, gradually increasing tempo)

(Spoken during do do do section)
Come on boy, sing the song there now, ha ha ha
Come on there, kick your wellies off, let her go
Pick it up a bit boys, pick it up
And the band, come on now, all you at the back, sing up can't hear you
Come on, let an old man show you how to do it, come on now, yeah
Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Mind your teeth don't come out
Oh hey, come on then let's go boys, come on you stragglers at the back
Come on now! We're going now, we're coasting, open your vowels, let her go!
Yes! Now we got in the rhythm now! Yes! Yes! Yes!
Come on now! Oh! Oh ho!
Go on there now my beauties

Track 5    Golden Brown

Golden brown, texture like sun
Lays me down, with my mind she runs
Throughout the night, no need to fight
Never a frown, with golden brown

Ah! Liquid gold!

Every time, just like the last
On her ship, tied to the mast
To distant lands, takes both my hands
Never a frown, with golden brown

Come on there, Dobbin Flatley, get them hooves up boy!

Golden brown, finer temptress
Through the ages, she's heading West
From far away, stays for a day
Never a frown, with golden brown

Ah! Nothing golden brown about that!

Ooh arr ooh arr ooh arr ooh arr ooh arr ooh arr ooh arr
Ooh arr ooh arr ooh arr ooh arr ooh arr
Ooh arr ooh arr ooh arr ooh arr ooh arr ooh arr
Ooh arr ooh arr, ooh arr ooh arr

Never a frown, with golden brown

Never a frown (never a frown)
With golden brown (with golden brown)
(Repeat twice)

With golden brown (with golden brown)
(Repeat twice)

With golden brown

Track 6     Go West

Together, we will go our way
Together, we will leave some day
Together, your hand in my hand
Together, we will make the plans
Together, we will fly so high
Together, tell our friends goodbye
Together, we will start life new
Together, this is what we'll do

(Chorus)
Go West! Life is peaceful there
Go West! Lots of open air
Go West! To begin life new
Go West! This is what we'll do
Go West! Sun and Winter time
Go West! We will do just fine
Go West! Where the skies are blue
Go West! Listen what we'll do

Together, we will love the beach
Together, we will learn and teach
Together, change our pace of life
Together, we will work and strive
I love you, I know you love me
I want you, happy and carefree
So that's why, I have no protest
When you say, you want to go West

(Repeat chorus)

I know that, there are many ways
To live there, in the sun or shade
Together, we will find a place
To settle, down and live with space
Without the, busy pace back East
The hustling, rustling of defeat
I know I'm, I'm ready to leave, ho ho ho ho
So this is, what we're gonna do

(Repeat chorus)

Come on my babbies, jump on the charabanc and let's head off way down there to the Westcountry
Where the sun shines all the time you know! Ha ha! It does!
I'm gonna show you around the meadows, and show you the lambs,
Take you out haymaking if you're up for it!
It's a wonderful place to be, a nice pint of fresh country cider brewed straight away from the woods
You can't beat it I'll tell ya, I've lived here all me life, and some of the most beautiful women that God ever made
Well I married one I'll tell ya ha ha!

Track 7    Sowing The Seeds Of Love

Do do do, do do do
High time, we made a stand, and shook up the views of the common man
And the love train, rides coast to coast, DJ's the man we love the most
Could ya be, could ya be squeaky clean, smashing the hopes of democracy
The headlines says you're free to choose, with egg on your face and mud on your shoes
One of these days they're gonna call it the blues

(Chorus)
Sowing the seeds of love, the seeds of love, sowing the seeds
Sowing the seeds of love, the seeds of love, sowing the seeds

I spy, tears in their eyes, they look to the skies for some kind of divine intervention
Food goes to waste, so nice to eat, so nice to taste
Politicians granted with your high ideals, have you no idea how the majority feels
Without love, and the promised land, we're fools to the rules of a Government plan
Dig out the style and bring back the jam, yeah

(Repeat chorus)
The birds and the bees, my girlfriend and me, in love!

Ha ha ha! Oh, so much in love you wouldn't believe! (So in love!)
I been in love with her for forty years or more you know (oh yeah)
And I worship the ground she's going under, ah (eh?)
Don't really mean that!

Ooh arr, ooh arr, ooh arr, ooh arr

Feel the pain, talk about it
If you’m a worried man, then shout about it
Open arms (ooh arr) feel about it
Open minds (ooh arr) just think about it
Everyone (ooh arr) you can read about it
Everyone (ooh arr) scream about it!
Everyone! Why don't we all read about it
Read it in the books and the crannies and the nooks, there's books to read!

Sowing the seeds of love, sowing the seeds

Dum dum cah! A dubba dum dum cah! A dubba dum dum cah! A dubba dum dum cah!
Dubba, dum dum cah! A dubba dum dum cah! A dubba dum dum dum dum dubba
Dum dum cah! A dubba dum dum cah! A dubba dum dum cah! A dubba dum dum dubba
La la, la la la, la la la, la la

Time to eat all your words, swallow your pride, open your eyes
Come on my babbers, sing away there now!
Time to eat all your words, swallow your pride, open your eyes
Sing your hearts out!

(Time to eat all your words, swallow your pride, open your eyes)
High time, we made a stand, shook up the views of the common man
And the love train rides coast to coast, every minute of every hour
I love the sunflower, and I believe (I believe) in lover power! (lover power) Ahhhh!
Go on my lover! Go on my lover! Go on my lover! Go on my lover!
I'm a lover man! Ho ho!

(Repeat chorus)

An end to need, and the politics of greed

(Repeat chorus in background)

Come on my babbers, sing the song you happy lot you!
Everybody sow the seeds of love, there's no finer thing for a man or a woman
This is what tomorrow's all about you know!
I'm telling ya, we'll make a better world you know
Sing the seeds of love, let's all sing it again, come on now my babbies,
Sing along there now, oh yeah, that's the way now, ha ha ha ha ha

Track 8     Common People

She came from Greece she had a thirst for knowledge
She studied sculpture at St Martin's College
That's where I, ha ha, caught her eye, ho ho ha
She told me that her Dad was loaded
I said in that case I'll have a rum and Coca-Cola, she said fine
And then, in thirty seconds time, she said

I wanna live like common people, I wanna do whatever common people do
Wanna sleep with common people, I wanna sleep with common people like you
Aw, what else could I do? I said I'll see what I can do, ho ho ha

I took her to a supermarket, I don't know why but I had to start it somewhere
So it started, there
I said pretend you've got no money, she just laughed and said oh you're so funny
I said yeah, well I can't see anyone else smiling in yer, are you sure

You wanna live like common people, you wanna see whatever common people see
You wanna sleep with common people, you wanna sleep with common people like me
But she didn't, understand, she just smiled and held my hand

Rent a flat above a shop, cut your hair and get a job
Smoke some fags and play some pool, pretend you never went to school
But still you'll never get it right, cos when you're laid in bed at night
Watching roaches climb the wall, if you called your Dad he could stop it all yeah

You'll never live like common people, you'll never do whatever common people do
You'll never feel like common people, you'll never watch your life, slide out of view
And dance, drink, screw, cos there's nothing else to do

Come on boys give me the horn!

Thee's got I dancing now, ha ha ha ha

Sing along with the common people, sing along and it might just get you through
Laugh along with the common people, laugh along even though they're laughing at you, ha ha
And the stupid things that you do, cos you think that poor is cool

Like a dog lying in a corner, they will bite you and never warn you
Look out, they'll tear your insides out, ooh
Cos everybody hates a tourist, 'specially the ones who think it's all such a laugh, yeah
And the chip stain and grease will come out in the bath
You will never understand, how it feels to live your life (ooh arr ooh)
With no meaning or control, and with nowhere left to go (ooh arr ooh)
All the things that they exist, and they burn so bright whilst you can only wonder why

Sing along with the common people, sing along and it might just get you through
Laugh along with the common people, laugh along even though they're laughing at you (ha ha)
And the stupid things that you do, cos you think that poor is cool

You'll never live like common people, you'll never do whatever common people do
You'll never feel like common people, you'll never watch your life, slide out of view
And dance, drink and screw, cos there's nothing else to do
Sing along with the common people, sing along and it might just get you through
Laugh along with the common people, laugh along even though they're laughing at you
And the stupid things that you do, cos there's nothing else to do

Get 'em in Landlord, first round on Tom

Thank you very much folks, thank you
Thank you for your time

Track 9         Sex Farm

Ooh arr ooh!
Ooh arr ooh, ooh!
Ooh, arr, ooh, arr, ooh, arr, ooh, arr
Working on a sex farm, trying to raise some hard love
Getting out my pitchfork, and poking your hay, hey!
Scratching in your henhouse, sniffing at your feedbag
Slipping out your back door, and leaving my spray, ho ho

Sex farm woman, I'm gonna mow you down
Sex farm woman, I'll rake and hoe you down
Sex farm woman, don't you see my silo rising high, high, high, high high high high

Ooh, arr, ooh, arr, ooh, arr, ooh, arr

Working on a sex farm, hosing down your barn door
Bothering your livestock, they know what I need, that's right
Working up a hot sweat, crouching in your pea patch
Ploughing through your beanfield, ah, and planting my seed, ho ho

Sex farm woman, I'll be your hired hand
Sex farm woman, I'll let my offer stand
Sex farm woman, don't you feel my tractor rumbling by, by, by
By-i-yi-yi! Ha ha ha

Ooh, arr, ooh, arr, ooh, arr, ooh, arr, ooh

Sex farm woman, I'm gonna mow you down
Sex farm woman, I'll rake and hoe you down
Sex farm woman, don't you see my silo rising high, high, high, high
High, ow me back, God!

Ooh, arr, ooh, arr, ooh, arr, ooh, arr
Ooh, arr, ooh, arr, ooh, arr, ooh, arr, ooh

Track 10      Ode To Adge Cutler

He never sang in Nashville, nor Memphis Tennessee
Nailsea, Portishead and Pill was, good enough for 'ee
With all his songs of country life, and how things used to be
Adge Cutler became a legend, in the Westcountry

Adge formed himself the Wurzel band, the first there'd ever been
And they headed up to London, to join the record scene
Drink Up Thy Cider was the song, that put them on the map
And for they boys in their corduroys, there'd be no looking back

Put on thy trusty Wurzel boots, when you hear the call
Your Grandad shirt, your corduroys, your hat your scarf and all
Pour theeself a pint of cider, fresh from the vat
And I'll sing your favourite Wurzels song, well just how good is that

Ah, you can choose one, cos they're all my favourites

Now he wrote of Shepton Mallet, and the ferry down in Pill
All Over Mendip, and up on Harptree Hill
Twice Daily was a saucy song, that everybody knew
And who'd have thought the Common Market, would come to Stanton Drew

Who could ever imagine, eh?

Adge travelled the land with his three piece band, in the pubs and the clubs and the like
Long before they motorways, in his faithful Hunter Snipe
A double bass lashed to the roof, with a hundred miles to go
Somewhere in a muddy field at an Agricultural Show

Put on thy trusty Wurzel boots, when you hear the call
Your Grandad shirt, your corduroys, your hat your scarf and all
Pour theeself a pint of cider, fresh from the vat
And I'll sing thy favourite Wurzels song, well just how good is that

If you're buying, then we'll all have one!

The Cutler made his very last stand, in the May of seventy-four
Fans all thought it was the end, that time had come for sure
But The Wurzels Combine Harvester soared up to number one
And the Farmyard Four were back on tour, and for them it had just begun

Now the years go on and old Adge is gone, but it seems only yesterday
We was drinking cider and having fun, down Nempnett Thrubwell way
So go on, hitch up your wagon, and get out your old grey mare
And we'll all meet up in The Royal Oak, down Nailsea, see you there

Put on thy trusty Wurzel boots, when you hear the call
Your Grandad shirt, your corduroys, your hat your scarf and all
Pour theeself a pint of cider, fresh from the vat
And I'll sing your favourite Wurzels song, well just how good is that

(Ooh arr) Put on your trusty Wurzel boots, when you hear the call
(Ooh arr) Your Grandad shirt and your corduroys, your hat your scarf and all
Come on my babbies
Pour theeself a pint of cider, fresh from the vat
And I'll sing your favourite Wurzels song, well just how good is that

Here's our little tribute to you Adge!

Ah and you deserve it boy!

I bet you’m sat up there laughing your head off in that great cider vat in the sky

Oh ho you made so many people laugh over the years!
Thanks from the bottom of our hearts Adge

See you again sometime Adge, God bless 'ee
